Copyright

1) Even though the client is ordering a commissioned art piece and may be providing the artist with general “ideas” or guidelines on the direction of the piece, the artist will solely and exclusively own the piece’s entire copyright, i.e., the client agrees that its contribution to the piece will NOT be a joint-authorship.

2) The client will own the original commissioned piece that they may display in perpetuity in a home, office, or other private, non-commercial settings (or other displayed location/s agreed to). All other rights are reserved with and belong to the artist.

3) The artist reserved the right to make additional reprints and derivative works from the original commission art piece that can be sold, licensed (or even given away for free!) in perpetuity and in all media forms now or forever known. Unless it was discussed and agreed otherwise, notably regarding a commission work of a person or pet portrait.

Artwork copyrights are retained by the Artist (me) and I retain the rights to reproduce the art in the future, unless it was discussed and agreed otherwise.

Portraits

After care for oil paintings

  • Oil paintings should not be in direct sun light, please hang the painting on a wall away from windows sun.

  • A year after you took your painting home, I will need to have it back for a day to varnish it. A couple of month after the varnish, it will be possible to clean the dust off the painting with a clean and bit damp cloth once in a while.

  • Before the varnish, don't clean the painting for at least 6 months. If you really have to after that when it is completely dry, just clean it softly with a clean and bit damp cloth.

  • Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if there is any problem.

Photographic References if you cannot sit for me:

To get a great painting, I need good quality photographs to work from, ideally taken close, with good lighting and high resolution so I can zoom in on details. I prefer my subjects to have gentle shadows to parts of the face and a mild smile.  Having said that, I do realize that sometimes there are circumstances where better photos are no longer a possibility.
Send me your photos by e-mail vladifab@hotmail.com and I'll let you know if I think I can work from them.

How long will it take to complete a portrait?

Portraits are normally completed within 4 weeks of a few sittings or the reception of good photographs, although I can often complete one sooner, if necessary, for a special occasion. If I am very busy, I will let you know how much longer it may take.

Payment

I am confident that you will love your painting, therefore I don't require any payment until you've seen your finished artwork (or a photograph of it) and you want to buy it (some exceptions may apply depending on the pose and/or photograph you provided). If you decide to go ahead and buy it, I would then require the full amount (by e-transfer or cash), before giving/posting it to you. In the unlikely event that you decide not to buy the painting, it will be offered for sale to the general public to recover some of the costs.

Please let me know if you'd rather I didn't share the image of your painting in my galleries on here or on my Facebook page, as I may do so after the artwork has reached you, unless I hear otherwise beforehand.

Postage

Postage is an additional charge.

Paintings in Canada will be sent by Canada Mail, first class recorded delivery. International items by UPS, international tracked.

Shipping charge is for shipping and handling. Shipping materials are reused when possible to help save the environment, all paintings are packed in sturdy wooden corners, securely sandwiched between thick cardboard, then wrapped in brown paper and wide packing tape.

Generic notes for customers outside of Canada:
International customers are responsible for all fees associated with shipping to their respective countries. Orders shipped to outside of Canada may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country. The recipient of an international shipment may be subject to such import taxes, customs duties and fees, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient; I have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it can cause delays beyond the original delivery estimates.
